Considering the allocation of Next Generation Eu funds, part of which is intended for the digital transition through the national plans of the Member States of the European Union, this contribution focuses attention on the policies adopted by them on the digital transformation of heritage library and archive. A European overview exposes the digitization initiatives, as well as the standards adopted, which lead to the creation of multiple and diversified digital platforms that display the results; the same ones that implement Europeana, the platform for European digitization projects. A considerable part of the contribution hinges on IT projects affecting Italy, of which particular regard has the digitization activity, carried out by the Vatican Apostolic Library and the Federico II University of Naples: united by the choice of digital format, the F.I.T.S. format, they intended to use it, because it is suitable for the long-term conservation of files and, therefore, functional for the custody, enhancement and use of documentary complexes and bibliographic collections.en_US
