    CEIT is a non-profit research center of the University of Navarra, Spain. The Simulation Unit has more than 20 years of experience combining traditional simulation techniques in Mechanical Engineering with the latest advances in ICT. Therefore, it achieves a wide variety of innovative applications, working along different but related research lines like mechanism analysis, design and optimization, simulation of multi domain systems, human motion reconstruction, VR/AR applications, human-machine interfaces, and haptics.

    This short presentation illustrates Visual Computing activities at the CRS4 research center. Research activities span many areas of computer graphics and computer vision, the primary focus being the study and development of scalable technology for acquiring, creating, distributing and exploring massive models, as well as for integrating them in real-time interactive visual simulations and virtual environments, both in local and distributed settings.

    At the Vienna University of Technology, the Institute of Computer Graphics and Algorithms is one of seven institutes of the Faculty of Informatics. It consists of groups on algorithms, computer graphics and image processing. Here we only describe the computer graphics group. We are focused on two main research areas: Visualization (Eduard Gröller, Ivan Viola + 8 researchers) and Rendering & Modeling (Michael Wimmer + 13 researchers).

    The Research Institude of Visual Computing, RIVIC, UK

    Visual computing represents one of the most challenging and inspiring arenas in computer science. Today, fifty percent of content on the internet is in the form of visual data and information, and more than fifty percent of the neurons in the human brain are used in visual perception and reasoning. RIVIC is the collaborative amalgamation of research programmes between the computer science departments in Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff and Swansea universities. Its aim is to promote research in visual computing, e.g. visualisation, computer vision and image/video processing, computer graphics and virtual environments.

    Established in Spain in the year 2008, the Graphics and Imaging Lab carries out research in the fields of computational photography, computational imaging, computer graphics and applied perception (Figure 1 shows representative recent work). Given its multidisciplinary nature, each new project is approached from several points of view in the search for new exciting lines of research. We also encourage external collaborations to benefit from knowledge exchange with other universities or industry, and put a especial emphasis in the internationalization of our research.

    VRVis is a research and technology transfer organization in the field of Visual Computing funded by the Federal Government of Austria and the City of Vienna since 2000. 50 percent of the money come from industry partners who gain significant technological advantages for their respective markets from this cooperation.
