Item The Generation of Straight Lines on Hexagonal Grids(Blackwell Science Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1993) Yong-Kui, LiuThe best disposition of a discrete set of points on the plane can be reached if the points are on a hexagonal grid. This paper describes an algorithm for the generation of straight lines on hexagonal grids. It uses only integer arithmetic.Item The Generation of Circular Arcs on Hexagonal Grids(Blackwell Science Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1993) Yong-Kui, LiuThe best disposition of a discrete set of points on the plane can be reached if the points are on a hexagonal grid. This paper describes two algorithms for circular arc mesh point selection on hexagonal grids. They find the closest integer coordinates to the actual circular arc using only integer arithmetic. Error criteria are explicitly specified.Item A Formal Specification of a Graphics System in the Framework of the Computer Graphics Reference Model(Blackwell Science Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1993) Duce, D. A.; Paterno, F.This paper is motivated by the emerging ISO/IEC Reference Model for Computer Graphics (CGRM) and the revision of the ISO/IEC computer graphics standard, the Graphical Kernel System (GKS). The paper explores the use of the CGRM as a framework for structuring a specification of apart of the current draft of the revised GKS and the use of the LOTOS formal description technique for specifying graphics systems.Item Symmetrical Patterns from Dynamics(Blackwell Science Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1993) Chung, K. W.; Chan, H. S. Y.Automatic generation of symmetrical patterns belonging to all seventeen wallpaper groups is considered from a dynamical system s point of view. A pseudo-code of the algorithm is provided to generate the computer graphics. The method is shown to be able to create unlimited varieties of patterns and demonstrates the possibility of relaxing the crystallographic restriction to produce aperiodic patterns.Item Electronic Kaleidoscopes for the Mind(Blackwell Science Ltd and the Eurographics Association, 1993) Pickover, Clifford A.; Rudolph, LarryThe goal ofthis article is to present an informal introduction and tutorial on aestheticallypleasing kaleidoscopic images. The article is intended for the non-mathematical reader interested in computer art. Simple generating formulas and recipes are included.
